Billie Eilish’s Logic Pro Demo Project – Learn How Extreme EQ and Minimalist Songwriting Can Capture That Hit Sound

For many of us writing music isn’t all that hard. You and I have been doing it so long that it’s kinda second nature.

But how about writing a hit song? In your bedroom? A song so captivating it captures the attention of the world overnight?

Well, it turns out that’s exactly what happened for Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell. A song they posted on Soundcloud with no intent or ambition other than to share with a teacher. Yet this song caught like wildfire online, and paved the way to a very successful musical career!

And what’s even more amazing, is that this hit song is now available to all Logic users with the 10.5 update.

“Ocean Eyes” is the song responsible for altering the trajectory of Billie and Finneas’s lives. And you can find it in the Demo Projects section of the Templates Window:

Billie Eilish's Logic Pro Demo Project - Learn How Extreme EQing and Minimalist Songwriting Can Capture That Hit Sound

“Ocean Eyes” is a wonderful exposé of a great song and mix. A song that doesn’t need 100+ tracks to make its point.

But my gosh is there’s some extreme EQ going on! Yet, the full mix works together wonderfully 🙂

I freaking love that Apple includes these demo Projects in Logic Pro.  And I think it only proves that Logic Pro X has everything we need to deliver great music.

So today I’d like to do a deep, deep dive into the included “Ocean Eyes” demo Project.

Nice Deep Dive Chris…… It’s testimony, that in the right hands, a tool like Logic Pro is very powerful.

Incidentally, talking of simplicity, my son and his wife have been producing some really good stuff over the last few years, and their latest batch of material was mixed/produced only on a 13″ MacBook Pro, interface and mics, but with no external hardware/gadgets, mice, controllers etc……
However, they did mix studio monitors which were aligned to the room……
Well worth a listen if you have a couple of minutes.
Here’s a couple of links to access their ‘OK BUTTON’ videos…..

Hello, love Billie mix, so cool. Wondering if you could answer why all the supporting vocals each have their own compression plug in? They did not route them to a bus?
    Thanks for your time.

Hello Chris, I hope you are doing well, considering these times.
Chris, I wonder if you can share the Billie Eilish Logic-Pro Demo-Project.

Unfortunately, I came late to the party, and I couldn’t grab the project to learn from it.
Thank YOU in advance and for all your shared knowledge.
