(Heads up – today’s video is definitely one for more advanced use cases. Tread carefully, and be sure to back up your files!)
Do you ever find yourself bouncing between Logic Pro and separate Audio File Editors like Izotope’s RX or Acon Digital’s Acoustica? For example, when I’m editing my voiceovers for each week’s video, I end up needing to do things like:
- Denoising
- Reducing mouth noises
- Declicking and popping
However, these tools aren’t just handy for voiceovers. Even when working on musical projects I just about always need to use some amount of:
- Denoising
- Reducing mouth noises
- Declicking and popping
So it can be very handy to get to know something like RX or Acoustica for editing and restoration.
Of course, both Izotope and Acoustica offer ARA 2.0 versions of their apps (ARA = Audio Random Access).
You can load these plug-ins right into the first slot of your Channel Strip in Logic Pro. When you press play, the audio from your Project is instantly transferred to the plug-in for editing.
BUT – Logic’s integration of ARA is kind of up in the air right now. Since the introduction of Apple Silicon, Logic now opens plug-ins separate from Logic Pro the application.
This is great for keeping your Project safe and less prone to crashes. Unfortunately, this “sandboxing” of plug-ins interferes with audio transfers via ARA…
Anyway – the point is you may find yourself bouncing between Logic Pro and separate apps for editing on a frequent basis. And it can be lame to export audio files over and over again every time you have to make an edit.
The great thing is, you can actually automatically transfer files and edits between apps another way. Via Logic’s “Open in External Sample Editor” feature. Today’s video will cover all the details.
But a word of caution – editing files this way is a destructive process (aka: permanent). The name of the game here is to back up your files before making edits.
In addition to showing you how to instantly transfer files and edits between apps, I’ll also show you some ways to back up right inside Logic Pro.
